Obituary

John David Horsman, 45, a construction worker, died in a tower crane accident Aug. 28 in Reston. A 1970 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, he earned the rank of sergeant in the Air Force during the Vietnam era. He was a communications specialist during the war, and was stationed in Okinawa for two years. Upon his return, he worked for construction companies for 20 years, including the Hyman Construction Co., American Pecco Crane Co. and the Morrow Equipment Co. "He was considered one of the best in his industry, and was a very helpful person to everyone he knew. He was always helping people do construction on their houses," said his brother-in-law Matthew Trayers. Mr. Horsman was a member of the Local 77 Operating Engineers Union. He enjoyed bow hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking. He is survived by his son, John David Horsman Jr., and a daughter, Samantha Anne Horsman, both of Falls Church; his parents, Milton D. Horsman Sr. and Patricia A. Horsman of Winchester; two brothers, Milton D. Horsman Jr. of Bowie and Steve Edward Horsman of Springfield; and a sister, Jennifer Lynn Trayers of Berryville. He is also survived by his fiancee, Tammy Terwilleger, of Manassas; a stepdaughter, Angela Kenyon and her two children, Alexander and Josh Kenyon; and by his former wife, Cathy Clater of Falls Church. A memorial service was held Tuesday at Lee Funeral Home of Manassas.
